[Info] Student Perspectives: Nancy

(1) What is your name, year, and major?

My name is Nancy Liang. I am an upcoming third year majoring in Sociology and minoring in Accounting.

(2) What led you to apply for the International Business Law and Taxation Travel Study program?

I've always wanted to study aboard. Because I couldn’t commit to a longer program, this was the perfect choice. I get to immerse myself in a different culture for a decent amount of time with other UCLA students. This program was also recommended by friends who went last summer.

(3) What is your favorite favorite part of the program?

My favorite part of the program is when we stayed in Paris. It’s such a beautiful city to explore. Definitely the highlight of the trip. I like how we had free time to explore on our own and to go on excursions with friends.

(4) What memory are you most, and least, fond of?

My favorite memory is when I saw the Eiffel tower lit up at night. It was my first night in Paris, and the sight imprinted in my mind.

My least favorite memory is when I got an upset stomach and didn’t bring the proper medicine with me… so definitely be prepared and bring some general, over-the-counter medicine!

(5) What advice do you have for other students who are thinking of enrolling in Travel Study?

Do it!!! You won’t regret it. You will be able to learn and appreciate another culture in ways you can’t by simply vacationing there. Make sure to have an open mind and be respectful while aboard. Do some research on the culture/customs, learn some greetings, and enjoy yourself.

(6) What have you gained from studying abroad, outside of knowledge of international tax and law?

I have learned to appreciate a different type of lifestyle and French history. Their beautiful architecture and cities are a gift, and I feel fortunate that I was able to go on this trip.
