Professor Freixes takes the class to the less visited attractions of Paris. This post will highlight some popular activities not included in his walking tours. It is best to always carry a copy your ID and student ID as many attractions will have student discounts.
Iconic Structures & Architecture:

Stunning at night, the Eiffel Tower lights up at sunset and flashes at the strike of each hour.
Tip: No lines at night around 9-10 p.m., but visitors can only go up to the second level.

>> ARC DE TRIOMPHE DE L'ÉTOILE
A neoclassical monument built in the early the 1800s to honor the fallen who fought for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.
Tip: Purchase a ticket to climb to the top for spectacular views of the city and Eiffel Tower.
Hours: Monday–Sunday, 10a.m.–11p.m.
>> Notre Dame Cathedral
A masterpiece of Gothic architecture with construction beginning in 1163 and lasting over 170 years.
The line looks intimidating but moves quickly.

>> Sacre-Coeur Basilica de Montmarte
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris is a Roman Catholic church built in the 19th-century by the French government after the Franco-Prussian War. Elevated above the city, it provides a panoramic view of Paris.
Hours: Monday–Sunday, 8:30a.m.–8p.m. for May-September
Neighborhoods:
>> Montmarte
A well-loved rural neighborhood located in the 18th Arrondissement. Visitors boast of its picturesque, old-village charm and romantic narrow stone streets. A place of artists, colorful sights and little eats. Perfect to visit in conjunction with the Sacré-Cœur Basilica.
>> Le Marais
A warm and lively neighborhood embellished with boulangeries, brasseries and art shops. One of the best places to stroll around in Pairs. The maze of streets houses boutiques and ethnic food treasures–truly a bohemian, historic, and Parisian experience.Museums:

Free admission for those under the age of 26 on Fridays after 6p.m.
Tip: Do not use the main entrance, Le Pyramide. Enter through Carrousel du Louvre, the underground shopping mall at 99 Rue de Rivoli (will need to travel down escalators and walk past all the shops). The same entrance can be accessed if you take the metro line 1 or 7 to the Palais Royale-Musee du Louvre metro stop.
Lines at the main entrance where Le Pyramide sits snake around the plaza and can take 3+ hours. The underground entrance usually takes less than 20 minutes.

>> Musee d’Orsay
Stunning collection of Impressionist art. Railroad station turned museum.
Tip: Reduced ticket fare of €6 on Thursdays after 6p.m. €6.50 after 4:30p.m. daily.
Hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 9:30a.m.–6p.m., "Late nights" on Thursday until 9:45p.m.
